Im sorry, it seems that Ive misled you. I have high CPU usage by mplayer process only when I trying to run mplayer as a background process 
inside ruby script (adding '&' to the end of above command). I have normal CPU usage when I use this command inside terminal or inside ruby script
without '&' (this is the case when I see many of "Cache not filling!" messages). I used ruby (should I try something else?) to be able to stop mplayer 
after some defined time (using 'sleep' and 'killall').
