-ass option doesn't affect the output. Here is the command line:
mencoder ksc_input.mov -ovc raw -o output.avi -oac pcm -ass -sub subita.srt
I got the same output as:
mencoder ksc_input.mov -ovc raw -o output.avi -oac pcm -sub subita.srt
fonts on the raw video are not rendered as oblique with the <i> </i> tag
