[MPlayer-users] Converting .m4a files to wav files?

There's an .m4a file I'm trying to convert to wav format using

mplayer -ao pcm filename -ao pcm file=filename.wav which is supposed
to dump the audio output to the file filename.wav.

However, only the first few seconds of the m4a file are actually dumped.

The m4a file in question is a multi chapter podcast episode that is
divided into several segments. I'm not sure which mplayer options to
use to process this type of file.
