there are a number. Personally did not find any decent and actually working
frontends for Linux (ergo wrote mine for mencoder). (most of the stuff is
either not working, blows up or is Windows-only). Couldn't get ffmpeg to
work with (somewhat broken) input files from Hauppage HD PVR.
But now that I know I can close the chapter on mencoder. It would have been
nice if this were clearly stated somewhere, i.e. 'Mencoder is no longer
maintained'. It certainly would have saved me tens of thousands of lines of
code.
