[MPlayer-users] Seeking in MPEG2/MPEG4 streams

Because it avoided some really annoying bugs, like mouse key release
events being lost.

Probably -key-fifo-size 2 gives the old behaviour (if you knew where to
look it would would have been in the manual :-) )
However now that I try it there seems to be another, rather strange, issue.
-demuxer lavf seems to avoid it for me.

I think SMPlayer supports seeking via keyboard, too, maybe that works?
And you could also try submitting a feature request to the developer,
one of the reason it is recommended that there is a good chance that
feature requests will be implemented...
