I think it does not support my card (lspci tells it is a "G98 [GeForce
8400 GS]"), and nvidia proprietary drivers do not work with xen (which I use).

But if it is CPU only, how can the performance be so different between
x11 (mplayer taking around 20% CPU) and gl/gl2 (mplayer's CPU use >90%)?

Well, going back to x11 for now.
