Okay after upgrading to the latest version of mplayer, I succesfully played the video after converting it from .wmv to .flv using mencoder even skipping through frames but after using flvtool (flvtool2 -V file.flv), frame skipping wont work which freezes the video file.

    Google finds complaints about this package dating back to april 2009. The
    average over last year's history of MPlayer counts 5.6 updates _per_day_,
    so it is quite likely that some of the 1283 updates since 2009-04-30
    already adressed that problem.
