It's the font. Libass tries to guess the charmap based on its name and
encoding, because some fonts have more characters in windows-specific
charmaps, and FreeType sometimes selects some other charmap as
default.
Can you find out which font it is related to by minimizing the style
section of .ass, or looking at "mplayer -v" log?
