That's actually how I do it, I added this

<e property="switch_audio" name="Audio Track"/>

to one of my submenus in menu.conf.  I doesn't show a full list of all audio tracks 
or anything, it just shows the currently selected one and you hit left/right 
(depending on your setup) to show each one and optionally select it.
