Under Windows, it's likely that the app playing it under windows can use
 some sort of acceleration (decoding, scaling) provided by the graphics
card, which mplayer cannot use, so it can very well be that a file plays
smoothly in windows, but not with mplayer. On my system (AMD X2 3800+,
2GHz), also with a nvidia 6200 PCI graphics card i have absolutely no
problem playing back 720p x.264 files. With xv, CPU load is ~45% (on one
cpu). Didn't bother playing back 1080p, as my TV is not capable of
showing them.
