[MPlayer-users] stupid question - "spdif" AND "hw=2"

My spdif hardware is on card #2 (hw=2)

the -ao option has the suboption "device=<blah>"

So, I can say " -ao alsa:device=hw=2 "

and i can also say " -ao alsa:device=spdif "

But I seem to need to tell mplayer BOTH.  I want it to play spdif through "hw:2"

without spdif it simply plays through my analog outputs.

And without "hw=2" it can't find the spdif device (apparently because it's not a part of card 0)

Help!
