Hello,

I installed the latest version of ubuntu, 8.4 (Hardy Heron), did a sudo
apt-get of mplayer, which got me 1.0rc2-4.2.3. I have a pchdtv-3000 dvb
card installed. I can watch live broadcasts with xine. But, when I try to
use mplayer, I have problems. In one window I'll run 'azap -r <some channel
from channels.conf>', and it is reporting:

status 1f | signal cc14 | snr 1be6 | ber 00000000 | unc 00000000 |
FE_HAS_LOCK

over and over again, and I then try mplayer I get:

MPlayer 1.0rc2-4.2.3 (C) 2000-2007 MPlayer Team
CPU: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 430 @ 1.80GHz (Family: 6, Model: 22,
Stepping: 1)
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1
Compiled with runtime CPU detection.
mplayer: could not connect to socket
mplayer: No such file or directory
Failed to open LIRC support. You will not be able to use your remote
control.

Playing /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0.

If I try to record (which is what I really want, since I can watch with
xine) with the command:
mencoder /dev/dvb/adapter0/dvr0 -ovc copy -oac mp3lame -lameopts cbr:br=64
-endpos xx:xx:xx -o x.avi

I get:
MEncoder 2:1.0~rc2-0ubuntu13+medibuntu1 (C) 2000-2007 MPlayer Team
CPU: Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 430 @ 1.80GHz (Family: 6, Model: 22,
Stepping: 1)
CPUflags: Type: 6 MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1
Compiled with runtime CPU detection.
success: format: 0 data: 0x0 - 0x0

and then it just sits there. Nothing happens, nothing is recorded.

What am I doing wrong?
