[MPlayer-users] Mplayer and svga

I have an ATI HD2600 PRO video card which works flawlessly in an X
environment with the ATI driver.  What I would like to do is be able to
use Mplayer in a console environment.

What I have done to this point is build and install the appropriate svga
drivers (svgalib_helper) as required, however running mplayer -vo svga
file.avi tells me the Rage driver is not found.

There is a section in the docs for Radeon but this has been less than
helpful in that it appears to be for older Radeon cards.

Clue needed.  Anyone?
