No you can't, vidix does not use any device, it accesses the graphics
card directly.

And a much simpler way is to check out the colorkey-related suboptions
of -vo xv and see which one fixes it, or use xvattr to check which
setting MPlayer set and set it back to whatever xawtv needs.
