if you're implying that mmx is disabled in mplayer when compiled for
the c7 processor, that could explain the benchmark results.  however
that would be a bug in mplayer (or mplayer's build system) since the
c7 has mmx.  or perhaps the audio codecs are choosing to not execute
the mmx optimized routines themselves on the c7 for some reason?
