Sorry, maybe I'm not understanding the question. There's a whole mess
of commands that return info, for example, get_meta_album returns the
album name, get_meta_title returns the title, etc. The result of each
command is output to stdout.
There's a web-based frontend linked to from the MPlayer project page.
I haven't used it so I can't vouch for its suitability.
