You should also be able to use -vo cvidix:ivtv

Yes, I am aware of that ;-)
Actually, since mpeg2-decoding doesn't require that much cpu power,
an alternative would be to do without the hardware decoder and use
the XV driver.
Unfortunately, when the output is sent to another X server using
the TV out, as soon as I switch the virtual console back to my
"real" X server (my regular X desktop; the machine is not a dedicated
"media center") the TV out is turned off.
Can anybody think of a way how to avoid this?
