Doesn't that work without -vc ffvc1 (at least for h264, it does for me)?
And without -ac ffeac3 (I never tested that)?

I guess it can't autodetect MPEG2 as long as you add -vc (or at least -vc
different from mpeg12, ffmpeg12 and ffmpeg12mc - you may want to compare
performance).
