[MPlayer-users] Slave Mode

Has anybody used slave mode for any application that controls the player?
Unless I'm wrong, it seems that I cannot rely on any kind of
request/response operation
from it. Some commands don't return answers when expected, and this leads to
blocking on reads.
Doing non-blocking reads and sleeps is a little racy and usually doesn't
work.

Is there a reliable way to control the player?
