On DVDs (or mpeg streams in general) it might as well look as this:

Which means, after 29172 Frames played (@23,997fps = 1216 seconds), the
timestamp (which is reported with A: and V:) can easily be reset to zero 
every now and then, in which case you're out of luck.

Almost all of my DVDs show this behavior with a counter reset at least 
once. With AVIs or other containers I did not notice this behavior.

As the timestamp is reported 'as-it-is' from the medium, this isn't also 
likely to change in the near future, and seeking beyond the first reset 
point is impossible, sadly.
