Hi,
Anyone interested in helping me build a newbies MPlayer guide? One with
very simple explanations and lots of screen shots? I think this could
really help a lot of new users come to grips with the program and get to
use some of its basic functionality quickly.
I have started one with some installation guides (for Windows, OSX and
Ubuntu) and a how-to for playing files. You can see here it:
http://en.flossmanuals.net/mplayer (there is a dutch translation here:
http://nl.flossmanuals.net/mplayer )
The manual is available also in pdf and if you want to, you can remix it
with other manuals (to pdf) here : http://en.flossmanuals.net/remix
It has just a few chapters so far, but the more content in it the
greater use it is to newbies. I was thinking of structuring the manual
to include the following additional chapters:
configuring audio playback
configuring video playback
configuring and using osd
keyboard controls
playing a stream
playing a dvd
additional help
But you can add what chapters you want.
If anyone is interested in helping write more there is the newbie manual
repository here :: http://en.flossmanuals.net/bin/view/MPlayer
You can create your own chapters and include them in the manual once
finished through the "index arrange" feature (linked from the repository
page).
The aim of the repository is to try and up the quantity and quality of
manuals on free software so more people will use it and also so they see
the diversity of choice available. So the more contributions (writing or
editing) the better. All content created is licensed under the gpl.
I really hope there is some interest in working on an MPlayer newbies
manual, I also very much welcome feedback on the idea and the
implementation of the repository.
:)
