[MPlayer-users] lavc mp3 codec gone?

After building and testing mencoder on MacOSX 10.4.9 using svn
revision 23550 (downloaded today via the daily svn snapshot tarball),
I noticed that the lavc mp3 audio codec was no longer available when I
tried to use it to convert a video file:

Audio LAVC, couldn't find encoder for codec mp3

This codec was available in revision 23483 (downloaded on 6/6/2007),
however. Is the disappearance perhaps due to an ffmpeg change?
