Yes, I believe I said so.  Maybe not explicitly enough.
Only the combination of avi muxer, ovc lavc, and avi demuxer cause
problem.  I don't know if that means that lavf demuxer is more
tolerant or that avi demuxer is broken...

Yes, but according to someone (I forgot who) that patch should not be
reverted because it solves a problem of creating incorrect VBR in AVI
or some such... anyhow, reverting has been declared fundamentally the
wrong solution.  *shrug*
