[MPlayer-users] how to append silence at end of track?

Hello list,
I am using mplayer to convert files to .wav-s like this:
mplayer file.mp3 -ao pcm:file=file.wav
I convert them to Ogg Vorbis after that.

Is there any way to add a few seconds of silence at the end of the file?

The reason for this is that my (hardware) player fails to play the last few 
seconds of each track, thus making audio books unusable.
