I'm watching graphical gkrellm and top.

Yes, both individual or combined.

2.6.20.7-default SMP ...I've used the same kernel on single CPU as well.
The system is SUSE 10.2 (custom kernel as above) running MythTV.
Mplayer parameters are:
vo=xv
monitoraspect=16:9
ac=hwdts,hwac3,a52,
subcp=cp1250
subfont-osd-scale=4
