As far as I know, ASS/SSA subtitles contain font name/size descriptors, so
changing anything during playback is not worth trying, isn't it? Or is it
not satisfying?

I'm not sure about existence or nonexistence of such feature though, you may
want to ask Evgeniy directly.

PS: couldn't find it in the changelog, but there was also a serious bugfix
in how lavf handles MP4 files. Try "-demuxer lavf" when you encounter
problems with MP4 files playback.
