[MPlayer-users]Installing MPlayer SVN plus extra libs

OK, well, has anyone got a foolproof guide to compiling MPlayer, because at
the moment I can't even open Matroska files.

Also issuing mplayer at the terminal retuns:

regardless of what is after mplayer (eg --help), nothing is shown.
