[MPlayer-users] Finding the peak level in an audio track

Sorry to bother.

I tried running the following on lfe.wav, a mono PCM file.

$ mplayer -af volume -ao pcm:fast:file=/dev/null lfe.wav

Although the man page states that the volume filter prints out the
maximum sound level, it doesn't.

Also, is there a better way to tell mplayer to play the file at maximum speed?
