Actually, what it gave you is a dump of the "core" of the file you told
it to dump the audio from; in other words, it behaved exactly as
expected. This is a longstanding joke, intended to be indicated by the
smiley. Many people, including me, think it is more misleading than it
is worth - but enough of the developers are adamant about retaining it
that it is unlikely to be changed anytime in the foreseeable future.
