I got the audio working on the dvd after I added the following options

/usr/local/bin/dvd.sh
#!/bin/ksh
gmplayer -cache 8192 -fstype fullscreen -zoom -alang eng -slang eng -af
volume=25 -aspect 4:3 dvd://$1


I put the options in a script rather than in ~/.mplayer/config as I figured for
other media types I probably don't want to start mplayer by default in full
screen, with subtitles or loud volume for other media.

btw I hope this bug gets fixed soon for the man page on Solaris 10 x86
