I don't need the MEncoder version number; except on a broken system or
one whose admin knows exactly what (s)he is doing, it will always be the
same as the MPlayer version number.

First, 1.0pre8 is outdated - 1.0rc1 is the latest released version. It
is very possible (I'm not going to check just now) that the -endpos
option was added during the extended period between those two releases.

Second, even the latest released version is only partly supported on
these mailing lists. Only the most recent development version is fully
supported.

Third, versions provided by third-party packagers are not supported on
these mailing list beyond very general usage guidelines. Only versions
compiled directly from source (or packaged by one of the MPlayer
developers) are supported.

Top-posting is putting the text of your reply above the text of the
message you're replying to. It is generally considered to be a bad idea
in *all* E-mail (except, for some reason, in a corporate environment).
You did it last time. You didn't do it this time. The change is
appreciated. Still, it would be better if you also snipped out the parts
of the previous message(s) you are not replying to (such as people's
signatures).
