[MPlayer-users] mencoder and .vob files question

I want to move a few DVD's I like to harddrive and play them there.  What is the highest quality setting to read a Chapter from a DVD disc, using mencoder, to keep it in original 'full glory' it was encoded as? I presume that would be VOB. Have a wonderful day & thank you.
