[MPlayer-users] -vf -3:100 total disaster

Hi,
I'm using mplayer as slave and I need to scale depending on the height space 
I'll have, which is still unknow.

The only way I found to do it is with the -vf scale
(-xy option just accepts x and scales y)
(whatever other methods than "vf scale" are welcomed)

The problem: When I launch something like

mplayer movie.avi -vf scale=-3:###
(As I said ### can be anything (well... an integer>0))

The result is that my whole OS (debian-sid) hangs, there's nothing on logs, 
nor nothing I can do but hitting reset.

any hint?
