[MPlayer-users] -vo xv with bpp 16 unsupported?

is the vo "xv" intended to work at any depth lower than 24?  for me it
works when X is running a depth of 24, but fails when I change the depth
to 16.

normally I run my X at depth 24 on any of my machines which I also run
mplayer, which is why I may have never run into this before.  because of
an unrelated issue between debian etch X at 24 bpp and opera 9.10, I
lowered the depth to 16 to get that working again only to find mplayer
xv started failing.
