[MPlayer-users] How to slow down mplayer without hurting quality

I want to play a PAL DVD at fps=24 so I tried
speed=24/25 but I thought it went more jerky than
normal and mplayer printed out my computer was too
slow, which it usually doesnt, so how do you do this
without hurting the performance?
