[MPlayer-users] Where are my skins?

I'm running Kubuntu Dapper and a "./configure", "make", then "sudo make 
install" work normally.  mplayer can be used to watch movies.  I wish to have 
a GUI and after running "./configure --enable-gui", "make" and then "sudo 
make install" something is wrong with my Kubuntu Dapper system.  When I try 
to run gmplayer, the following text appears:

A dialog appears with "[skin] file 
(/usr/local/share/mplayer/skins/default/skin) not readable."

But a file listing shows:
