[MPlayer-users] is it really that "Your system is too SLOW to play this"?

CPU: P4 1.8G
video card: nVidia Corporation NV17 [GeForce4 MX 440] 64MB
os: debian unstable
mplayer version: 1.0rc 

when other background programs have occupied CPU about 40% usage,using
mplayer to play any video will show "Your system is too SLOW to play
this!";

is there any optimization could give me best experience with mplayer?
