I read/tried it before,

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/menc-feat-dvd-mpeg4.html#menc-feat-dvd-mpeg4-encoding-interlaced

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/HTML/en/menc-feat-telecine.html#menc-feat-telecine-encode-interlaced

but it didn't work for me. The output file looked OK playing on PC (vlc),
but looks rather bad played on TV. I'm converting VCD as DVD tracks
BTW. Here is how I did:

mencoder -of mpeg -mpegopts format=dvd:tsaf -vf harddup -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg2video:vrc_buf_size=1835:vrc_maxrate=3200:vbitrate=1152:keyint=15:aspect=4/3:ilme:ildct -oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=ac3:abitrate=192 -srate 48000 -af lavcresample=48000 -ofps 25 -mc 0 -quiet -o vcd-test-pal.i.mpg vcd-test-pal.mpeg

Viewing on TV (from my DVD player), the converted interlaced output looks
like half of the information is missing, as if they are overlaid instead of
interlaced. Do you want me to upload the test file and result somewhere?
There are about 5M each.

Thanks
