You don't need to replace gcc that came with suse.
Just compile one, install in a temporary place and use it to compile mplayer.
Example:
#download gcc-core-3.4.0.tar.bz2
tar fjx gcc-core-3.4.0.tar.bz2
mkdir obj
cd obj
../gcc-3.4.0/configure --prefix=/tmp/gcc
make bootstrap-lean CFLAGS='-O2' LIBCFLAGS='-O2' LIBCXXFLAGS='-O2 -fno-implicit-templates'
make install
PATH=/tmp/gcc/bin:$PATH
#now the new gcc will be used instead of the default one
cd <MPlayer source>
./configure <options>
make
make install
