Looks like you didn't install your fonts.  Look at ~/.mplayer/font.  You 
should see several files from the fonts package.

$ ls  ~/.mplayer/font/
font.desc  iso-8859-1-a.raw  iso-8859-1-b.raw  osd-mplayer-a.raw  
osd-mplayer-b.raw

and there's more in /usr/local/share/mplayer/font too..

Also, did you set the RTC using?:

"sudo echo 1024 > /proc/sys/dev/rtc/max-user-freq"


And did you install the codecs?  I think they should be in 
/usr/local/lib/codecs
