I have no idea about that problem, specifically, but in general you
should always compile and try the latest CVS mplayer before reporting a bug.

Also, you shouldn't cut the output of mplayer -- send it in full. If you
don't want to clutter up your message, put it at the end or in an
attachment.

You can also try this:
$ rm /path/where/I_copied/files_on_HD/VIDEO_TS.IFO
$ mplayer -v dvd://1 -dvd-device /path/where/I_copied/files_on_HD
I have no idea if it'll work.
