I apologize if I wasn't very clear on specifying that I was
looking for help in MPlayer.
I was looking for a method to take raw audio from the line-in
jack and play it through the sound card's speaker output. I have
written a frontend for my Car PC in PyQt and have used Mplayer for the
DVD playing, HDD audio files, HDD video files, etc. I wanted to be able
to use the same frontend to listen to an externally connected audio
device so that I can use the same touchscreen buttons to do things like
Mute, Volume Up and Volume Down. I know I probably could do it with a
TV card attached but this PC doesn't have one.

Hi,
I have spent some time trying to find a method the play audio that
is coming through my Car PC's line in jack. What I want to do is have
the ability to play audio CDs, play audio files from the HDD, or listen
to audio connected to the line in jack from any source such as a
external GPS voice commands, MP3 player or IPod.
There is no need for recording but the ability to pass through the
audio. I will already be using the AUX connection on the car radio to
play the Car PC's audio output. I will mount a female audio jack
conveniently to allow the PC to be hidden away.
Thanks for any help.
