Ok, no need to bother anymore, the usw of hw:0,2 did the trick (instead 
of the default hw:0,0
this means

     | hw[:0,0]                  | surround51          | hw:0,2
----+---------------------------+---------------------+--------
5.1 | slow, Front/Rear switched | OK                  | OK
----+---------------------------+---------------------+--------
2.0 | OK                        | Front/Rear switched | OK
