Try the following: remove all fonts from ~/.mplayer and make
a symlink ~/.mplayer/subfont.ttf to some very original font that
is not similar to any. Then you will see what actually happens,
are there a resized bitmap VOB subtitles, or text subs appeared
from somewhere.
