[MPlayer-users] newbie: Trouble playing mpeg file

Hi.

I am building a pvr system using ubuntu on a system with a hauppauge pvr150.

I've followed the instructions found here:

after crosschecking the ivtv driver installations instructions:

When I try to play back the fiel created by
cat /dev/video0 > /tmp/test_capture.mpg

The screen flicks over to a blank black screen (which I guess was
okay) but after about 1 or 2 seconds it drops back to my desktop.  The
terminal window is repeatedly  flicking messages (I guess one for each
frame in the file) that says:

AC EOB marker is absent pos=64.0% 0 0
      AC EOB marker is absent pos=64

;;;;;;;;;;;;=;;=:=;:=;==;=;;;;;;;;;::=;:=;::=;:=;;;;::=;:=;;;:::=;:=;:==::=;:=;::::=;:=;;::=;:=;:::=;:=;:::=;:=;:::=;:=;::;;::;=:=;:=;;:;;;:;;::;;=;=:;=;;;;:;=;;;;;;=;;=;;:;;::=;;;;=;:;=;;

(the above line is an example that is random string of ;:= characters
and is repeated many times before the end of the frame,  where it
gives the following message:)

V: 17.6 529/529 156% 1603% 0.0% 0 0

Assistance on where to go or what all this means would be very greatly
appreciated.  I am hoping to get this built over the christmas break.
