Not usually. I know of no cards that support more that 2048x2048,
although there are cards with > 256MB RAM...
xvinfo | grep maximum
is the problem. There can be many reasons if that value is low: the card
is old, the card is crap, there really is not enough video memory, a
driver bug and possibly more.
