dont know if the command is ok, the screen appears for a very short 
moment and disappears again?

the only thing which works is:

mplayer -v /dev/cdrom,  or
mplayer -vo xv -ao jack /dev/cdrom,

but it needs about 5 minutes for dvd to begin to play.
