[MPlayer-users] vobsub problem

I'm having trouble with the subtitles on the "Ong Bak" DVD.  If I play 
the .vob file in MPlayer, the English subtitles don't appear.  They do 
appear if I skip forward far into the movie (about 2/3 through).  Once 
they appear, they play fine.  But if I skip forward or backward after 
they appear, they disappear again.  Sometimes they reappear after 
several seconds.  More often, it never starts again.

The Spanish subtitles work perfectly fine.  And the English subtitles 
work just fine in xine.

My goal is to transcode the .vob to save space.  I use mencoder to pull 
out a .idx and .sub file.  This has worked fine for other movies, but 
mplayer seems to be having trouble with the English subtitles on this 
movie.  It works just as poorly on the transcoded mpg along with the 
.idx and .sub files--sometimes the subtitles show up, part way through 
the movie, but never from the beginning.  I'm using the GUI mplayer for 
Mac OS X, B8r4.

Any ideas?
