urgh, i did this long time ago with a camera of a friend of mine...
i don't remember very well, but i managed to view it through v4l
support, you should view it through /dev/video0 with mplayer tv://0

sorry if i can't be of big help, but maybe you should go in that
direction, by now i can't really help you better...  

if not working try the program dvgrab, wihch i didnt' use yet
