You can dump a small part of a DVD in this way:
mplayer dvd://1 -chapter 1-1 -dumpstream -dumpfile dvd.vob
Playing with:
mplayer -v dvd.vob
will show:
==> Found audio stream: n
but you wont see:
[open] audio stream: 0 audio format: .......
because you need the dvd structure for that.
